William Cory Godbolt Arrested For Murder Spree
Bogue Chitto, Mississippi – Eight people were fatally shot Sunday morning, including a Lincoln county deputy. The suspect, William Cory Godbolt is in custody.
The Lincoln County deputy responded to a call at Lee Drive Sunday morning for an unwanted person at a residence. While the deputy was on scene, he was fatally shot along with three other people. The killing continued at two other homes, although details are still sketchy at this time.
The suspect, William Cory Godbolt, 35, was taken into custody just before 7 AM at Super Jack’s at East Lincoln Road and Hwy. 84, according to the Daily Leader. He had a 16-year-old male with him who was reported to be a hostage. The 16-year-old is now safe.
Governor Phil Bryant issued the following statement:
“I ask all Mississippians to join Deborah and me in praying for those lost in Lincoln County. Every day, the men and women who wear the badge make some measure of sacrifice to protect and serve their communities. Too often, we lose one of our finest. I thank the law enforcement agencies involved for their hard work. May the peace of the Almighty wash over those hurting after this senseless tragedy.”
According to the Daily Leader, William Cory Godbolt’s criminal history shows a history of armed robbery aggravated assault in 2005; assault in 2013; disorderly conduct and driving on a suspended license in 2015; and contempt of court and assault in 2016.
